Rachel Laurin’s music lives on at Orgelkids

What sad news! Talented Canadian organist and composer Rachel Laurin (62) passed away on 13 August. In 2019, she wrote a beautiful composition especially for the Doe organ of Orgelkids: “Ten little sketches for ten little fingers”. She thus won first prize in our composition competition to mark 10 years of Orgelkids. We are saddened and wish her family much support and hope that her beautiful musical legacy may bring comfort to all who miss her.

During the organ symposium ‘De wereld in’ (‘into the world’) on 15 October 2019 at the Martinikerk in Groningen, Lukas Jan Schoonbeek and Johan Smit (organ students at the Prince Claus Conservatory Groningen) played two movements from ‘Ten little sketches for ten little fingers’ by Rachel Laurin, written for Orgelkids’ Do-organ.
